Course Requirements

This section of the Syllabus explains how this course is organized, and what will be required of you academically.

Textbooks
The following textbook is required for this class:

de Blij, H.J., and Peter O. Muller, The World Today: Concepts and Regions in Geography, Third Edition, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2007 (ISBN 0-470-04681-3)

This book may be purchased in person or via mail order or online from the Saddleback College Bookstore. You can also purchase new and used copies of this book from a variety of other sources.  Check the following list of alternative sites for purchasing textbooks:

You can also check for e-books or online textbooks through the textbook publisher, since these books usually cost much less than the hard copy prices.  However, I don’t recommend purchasing the online version of the textbook unless you have access to a “hard copy” of the textbook, because if the online textbook website has problems or is offline for any reason, you will temporarily lose access to your textbook.

If you don’t have access to this edition of this textbook, you will not be able to successfully complete this course.  It is your responsibility to make sure that you obtain a copy of this text during the first week of the class. Although you may be able to borrow the book from a library, you should not count on this option since it may not be available when you need it.

In addition to the textbook, you will receive additional required reading assignments taken from a variety of Internet sources. This may include videos and podcasts.
