Course Description           
Introduction to the major regions and countries of the world with emphasis on population, place, location, environment, and economic development.

Goals and Objectives           
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze the problems facing humankind in today’s world;
  2. Compare the effects of culture upon land usage in similar physical environments in different geographic locations;
  3. Discuss inferences from information in thematic atlases;
  4. Explain the complexity of the relationship between population, birth rate, gross national product, and natural resources; and
  5. Describe the relationship between agriculture, climate, soils, and technology.

Prerequisites
None.

Transferability           
This course may be transferred for credit to a UC or CSU system school.

Important Dates           
The last date to register to take the course on a CR/NC basis is Wednesday October 31, 2007. The final date to drop the course without a grade of “W’ is also Wednesday October 31, 2007. The final drop date with a grade of “W” is Wednesday November 21, 2007.

You, and only you, are responsible for officially dropping the course if you decide for any reason that you do not wish to complete it. Please take this responsibility seriously.  Your final grade will be based on your cumulative score.  If you don’t satisfy the class requirements (homework, exams, and participation), you will earn a low or failing grade in the class.

Class Contract
As a condition of enrollment in this class, and as part of the class orientation process, you are required to sign the class contract and to submit it to me correctly via email by the end of the second day of class.  Students who fail to do so may be dropped from the class.
